Cupping

Physiotherapists may sometimes use cupping as a technique of tissue distraction release. The cups are glided across different areas to lift and separate tissue. Cold Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is a safe, effective, and non-invasive way to treat pain and aid in the recovery of many conditions. Through therapeutic exercise, it is possible to have your function restored and live a life that is pain-free.

Manual Therapy

Also known as “hands-on therapy,” manual therapy is a specialized treatment performed by licensed physiotherapists. During this treatment, your Burlington physiotherapist will manipulate joints and soft tissue with nothing more than their hands. That means no intimidating machines or equipment involved – just hands!

Manual therapy is used as a way to relieve pain, reduce swelling, decrease restriction, improve range of motion, and mobilize joints. In order to do so, your physiotherapist will conduct targeted massages and stretches to the affected part(s) of your body.

Concussion Testing & Rehab

There is a dangerous trend of equating an injury with how visible the problem is. Of course a broken bone or a torn ligament is going to create a scene, but this isn’t a failsafe way to judge an injury. When an athlete blows out their knee it becomes something that everyone can see, and the pain on the player’s face merely confirms what everyone else is already thinking: that injury is real, that injury is painful, that person is going to need medical attention.

NecK Pain & Headaches

When someone experiences neck pain, it typically runs from the base of their skull to the top of their shoulder blades, finally settling in the back of the neck. The pain can also vary in severity – some people suffering from neck pain report a constant dull ache, while others report sharp and stabbing pains. Neck pain can also come with additional symptoms, such as headaches and arm weakness.

Back

The American Physiotherapy Association reports that back pain is the most common type of pain across the United States. In fact, one out of every four Americans has experienced back pain in the past three months. Back pain typically develops as the result of an injury or muscle strain, but it can sometimes be difficult to determine whether it is general back pain or sciatica.

Foot and Ankle

It is no secret that both your feet and ankles are very complex structures. They must work together in harmony in order to function at their optimal levels. According to the Arthritis Foundation, the ankle joint consists of three bones that all must interact with one another correctly, in addition to the various connective tissues that hold the assembly of the joint together.

Shoulder

The shoulder is the most complex joint in the human body. It has to move through more than 180 degrees of motion in many directions, rotate, slide and spin. There are a variety of muscles that have to work in concert to ensure the shoulder joint tracks properly with everyday activities. It is made up of the humerus bone, scapula (shoulder blade) and clavicle (collar bone). There are technically 4 joints that make up the entire shoulder complex.

Elbow, Wrist and Hand

There are a vast variety of muscles, tendons, bones, and joints that make up your upper extremities. Because of this, it can be difficult to determine exactly where your elbow, wrist, or hand pain is stemming from. There are several reasons why you may be experiencing pain, whether it’s an injury, ailment, or some sort of other underlying condition. Whatever the case may be, the pain can greatly impact your daily life.

Hip

Your hip is a ball-and-socket joint that works to support the weight of your upper body, relying on multiple muscles and tissues to keep it mobile and stable so it can function properly. Pain felt in the hips may originate in the joints themselves, but it may also be a result of an underlying condition in another part of the body. This means that while you may be feeling pain in your hip, the problem could actually be rooted in a different part of your body.

Knee, Balance and Walking

Your knee is a hinge joint, confined to forward-and-backward motions. The knees allow you to stand, walk, run, and dance without falling over.

Pain felt in the knees may originate in the joints themselves, but it may also be a result of an underlying condition in another part of the body. This means that while you may be feeling pain in your knees, the problem could actually be rooted in a different part of your body.
